Excellence in Education

School Life

School begins daily at 8.30 with half an hour for Tefilah, or prayers, drawn from the Torah.  Non Jewish children are not required to attend Tefilah, but are expected to be present at school to work on other activities.   From 9 – 3 the school timetable is constructed to ensure literacy and numeracy receive priority while all other areas of the New Zealand Curriculum are taught in balance with daily Jewish Studies and Hebrew classes.  The week ends with Kabblat Shabbat each Friday afternoon, which is open to parents and wider community members.

We strongly support community and parental involvement in the school and encourage their involvement in the children’s learning programmes. Parents are welcome to make appointments with teachers at any time, and we hold regular parent evenings.  We operate a “Book-Look-Home” system which means the children bring home their school books once a term for discussion with their family.

Children wear a school uniform, including kippah for the boys. Children bring their own lunches, however, in keeping with the laws of Kashrut, no meat products should be brought to school.
